Welcome to the NCBF Listserv: Overview and Contact Information

On behalf of the National Conference of Bar Foundations, we are delighted to welcome you to our listserv, provided as a member service to bar foundation staff and officers.

We have prepared some answers to the most frequently asked questions we receive about this service. We also have included some basic "net-iquette" suggestions to make the listserv as useful as possible to our users.

This message will be re-posted several times a year as a reminder of listserv policies. You may want to save this message in an email folder for future information, too.

NCBF Listserv "Net-iquette"

1. Please respond only to the original message writer in your "TO" field. Do not "reply to all." Before clicking on SEND, make sure the listserv address is not in your "TO" field.

2. If you are initiating a question through the listserv, you are the only user who should receive responses. Please summarize your responses or forward your responses to those colleagues who contact you for the responses. You may also be asked to write an article about what you learn for our Foundation Forum newsletter.

3. If you would like to receive answers to an initiator's questions, please contact the person initiating the question directly.

NCBF Listserv FAQs

1. What is the purpose of this listserv? The NCBF listserv is used to communicate quickly with bar foundation executives and officers, and staff persons from the Division for Bar Services. Messages fall into two main categories: announcements about upcoming NCBF and ABA programs that are posted by ABA staff and NCBF leaders, and requests for information and advice by individual NCBF members. Please reply directly to the message poster with your relevant replies. Please do not "reply to all."

2. How did my name get on it? All NCBF members, as identified on the annual membership renewal forms, are automatically added to this listserv. The listserv is not open to the general public.

3. How does a listserv "work"? Listserv messages are the same as a traditional email, except that the single email message is automatically sent to all members on the list.

4. How do I post a question? All NCBF members are authorized to post an email to the listserv. In the "to" field of your blank email message, enter the address "ncbf@mail.abanet.org" (without the quotation marks). You may type the address in ALL CAPS or lowercase. Once you send the message, it will be delivered within seconds to all list members.

5. Can I receive only "announcement" information but skip the requests for assistance messages? NCBF maintains only one listserv for both general information and individual questions from members. We rely on the listserv to disseminate important NCBF member information. With your cooperation, these instructions to reply only to the question initiator should eliminate your receiving multiple answers to individual questions which may not interest you, and which have been an irritant to many listserv users in various organizations.

6. How do I change my email/contact info, or unsubscribe/subscribe? If your contact information changes, or a new staff person or officer should be added or removed for your foundation, contact Roseanne Lucianek at the ABA Division for Bar Services (LucianekR@staff.abanet.org) or call 312-988-5344. She is the only person who can process this information.
