During this conference, foundation executives
and staff will attend information-packed
workshops and network with
colleagues, old and new, at entertaining
social events.
The NCBF meeting begins on
Thursday evening with an orientation
for new members and first-time attendees,
followed by a separately ticketed
dinner at Vickery's Crescent Avenue Bar
and Grill, a restaurant well-known for its
delectable Southern cuisine. According
to local lore, Margaret Mitchell penned
much of "Gone With the Wind" at
Vickery's.
On Friday morning, after the opening
plenary session, NCBF programming
will start with two morning workshops,
which will be part of the joint programming
with NABE, NCBP and
NCBF. The first workshop, "Developing
a Culture of Compliance," will examine
the strategies and tools nonprofit organizations
can use to develop an organizational
culture that is compliant and
accountable. The second Friday morning
workshop, "Bar Foundations - Past,
Present and Future," will examine the
history of bar foundations, the diversity
they enjoy today and take a look at their
prospects for the future.
The 2004 NCBF Award for Bar
Foundation Excellence in Public Service
Programming will be presented during
the NABE/NCBP/NCBF Joint Luncheon,
an optional event. Justice Robert
Benham, of the Georgia Supreme Court,
will deliver the luncheon address.
Immediately after the joint luncheon,
NCBF members will head to the
Renaissance Atlanta Downtown Hotel to
attend joint programming with the
National Association of IOLTA Programs
and the ABA Commission on IOLTA.
The afternoon workshop, "Issues
Related Leadership and Collaboration
Building," will unite bar foundations
and IOLTA foundations for an interactive
session that will explore their multiple
roles as leaders, conveners, educators
and standard setters.
Attendees will learn techniques for
building and participating in coalitions,
partnerships and collaborations that
focus on issues and the ability to leverage
their diverse resources. Friday
evening highlights will include a joint
reception for NABE, NCBP and NCBF.
On Saturday morning, substantive
programming resumes with a presentation
by this year's winner of the NCBF
Award for Bar Foundation Excellence,
followed by a panel discussion featuring
2004 award nominees who will share
tips on how their programs can be
adapted for and implemented within
another bar foundation.
Roundtable discussions will be next,
with topics including: fundraising questions
and ideas, marketing and communication
and a "grab bag." The deadline
for advance registration and housing is
July 8, 2004. You can register online at
